photos of Africa - artistically rendered

sepia collection

In a bygone photographic era sepia toning was used to help extend the life of a photograph and expand its tonal range. The word sepia comes from the Latin name for the cuttlefish from which the reddish-brown ink was derived. In East Africa just about everything is coated in a fine sepia coloured dust derived from the red soil. I have created my own sepia toning technique that i feel aproximates the dust of Africa.
