African wildlife is truely amazing. There are also some breathtaking landscapes. The trick is to capture images of the wildlife within one of those great landscapes. It happens occaisionally. More often you end up with stunning animals with drab dusty scrub brush in the background. It is at this point that some careful pre-planning and then creative post production are required in order to elevate the image from nice animal portrait to a piece of fine art.

It is impossible for any camera to capture in a single image all of the levels of brightness that our eyes can see when we look at a scene. Using several different frames of varying exposures it is possible to recreate what the eye could see. The challenge is to blend those exposures together into a single image that renders the tones in a pleasing way and expresses the artist’s vision.
